SWISS-ENERGYPIER'S SOLAR HIGHWAY PROJECT
A Swiss initiative to secure the world’s energy future… That’s the stated aim of protecting our planet, but in reality, this masterful concept is nothing less than the world’s largest renewable energy project – and it’s… Swiss!
We are very proud to have the honour of being a partner in such a major project developed by ServiPier Inc and its founder, Laurent Jospin, a talented and visionary engineer.

The idea
Based on the idea of covering motorways to generate electricity, the EnergyPier concept can be seen as a way of reusing an area that has already been allocated. EnergyPier enables the basic transport function of a motorway to also become a system for the production and distribution of renewable green electricity on an industrial scale and at competitive prices.
The Concept and the Pilot Project
In practical terms, this involves erecting a metal structure over the A9 motorway at Fully, in Valais, stretching for 1 mile (1.6 kilometres). This would then be covered with nearly 47,000 solar panels, and more than 500 EnergyPier AnemoGen™ Vertical modules would be installed, enabling the production of approximately 50 GWh per year – enough to power at least 37,000 people.
The abundant sunshine in Valais and the winds in the Rhône Valley were key factors in choosing ServiPier, as was the presence of a long straight stretch of motorway in Fully. Finally, the proximity of hydroelectric facilities would create synergies.
Progress
ServiPier signed an agreement with the Federal Roads Office (FEDRO) on 22 August, confirming the Swiss Confederation’s interest in this innovative project.
Once the Fully pilot project is finalised, it will serve as a ‘Swiss Quality’ showcase for other solar installations above motorways, first in Switzerland, then in various countries around the world that have already expressed an interest.
